Duties & Responsibilities
Town Board Duties
The Town Clerk is required to attend town board meetings and to take and record the minutes of these meetings; the official record of the activities of the town government. These records are retained permanently for legal and historic purposes.
Public Officer Duties
The town clerk has many duties regarding public officers, including: administering oaths of office, filing official undertakings, addressing notification of appointments and vacancies, and processing resignations.
Records Management Officer
The Town Clerk has been designated, by statute, to serve as the town records management officer (RMO). As the RMO, the town lcerk is charged with coordinating the development and oversight of the town’s government records management program. The town clerk is also responsible for coordinating the legal disposition, including destruction of obsolete records. The Town Clerk is also the administrator of the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), which guarantees your right to obtain copies and view certain town records in accordance with the Freedom of Information Law.
Licensing Officer
The Town Clerk shall issue all licenses or permits and collect all fees therewith. These licenses include, but are not limited to; marriage, dog, conservation (hunting and fishing), games of chance, bingo, and parking for people with disabilities. The Clerk also issues town licenses and permits in accordance with the town’s local laws.

Checks or money orders should be made payable to the “Town Clerk”. *Late Fee after 60 days $5.00 To apply for a handicap parking permit, the applicant along with their doctor, must fill out the application and bring back to the town or village in which they reside. There is no fee for a handicap parking permit. To qualify for a resident sporting license, you must have permanent residency in New York State for more than 30 days. To show your residency, you must bring one of the following documents: All first-time hunters and trappers planning to go afield this fall must first complete a mandatory hunter education course or trapper education course before they can purchase a hunting or trapping license. In-person, instructor-led certification courses for hunter education, bowhunter education, and trapper education are being offered throughout NYS.
